The Fibra Óptica Austral (FOA) initiative, already operational in the Región de Magallanes y de la Antártica Chilena (Magallanes and Chilean Antarctic Region), is the most important technological advance in decades for the southern zone of Chile, since it will allow all its inhabitants to be part of the digital era.
This project, of 84 million dollars of public investment, benefits the area from Puerto Montt to Puerto Williams, integrating the regions digitally by the sea through fiber that combines 2,780 km of submarine and 100 km of land cable; with a capacity of 6 terabits per second.
This enabling infrastructure digitally connects the Región de Magallanes y de la Antártica Chilena (Magallanes and Chilean Antarctic Region) with the world, facilitating the development of entrepreneurial and innovation projects in relation to research, health, education and tourism, among many others.
Segments with projection.
The Región de Magallanes y de la Antártica Chilena (Region of Magallanes and Chilean Antarctica), has special conditions for the development of different technological projects. For example, with its cold climate (annual temperatures generally oscillate between 0 and 14ºC), the lowest seismicity in Chile, stability of the current energy matrix, the immense potential of green energy generation (wind power system) and one of the highest security levels in the country, it is an excellent candidate for the installation of Data Centers. In addition, the vast latitudinal extension of the region favors technological investment in infrastructure for downloading data from high-latitude orbiting satellites. These are just some examples of the projection that the territory presents in digital affairs.
